The 2027 Texas Robotics Legislative Watch
Published
Session preview; no 2027 bills filed as of the date checked. Law checked through October 18, 2026.
Cincinnatus left his plow to serve Rome and returned to it when the work was done. Texas built its government on a version of that idea: a citizen legislature that meets in regular session for 140 days every other year and then goes home. Whatever robotics law Texas writes in 2027 will be written in that short season.
Bill prefiling for the 90th Legislature begins November 9, 2026, and the session convenes January 12, 2027. No 2027 bill has yet been filed, and this page will list bills only after they exist.
The agenda is already shaped by what happened between sessions. Three 2025 drone bills did not pass: HB 1285 on Railroad Commission drone inspections, HB 3272 on drones and spaceports, and HB 3662 on drones and school facilities. Their subjects remain. The first law-enforcement drone reports under the 2025 amendments to § 423.008, due from state agencies and larger local agencies between January 1 and January 15, 2027, will arrive as the session opens.
Federal action since 2025 also presses on state law. The commercial driverless authorization regime under Senate Bill 2807 will have run for one full interim. The FAA's proposed part 74 site restrictions overlap the state's critical-infrastructure offense. The new federal counter-drone rule permits certified local agencies to act and leaves to the states whether to require notice or approval. The FCC's drone and robotics listings and the state's prohibited technologies list govern the same purchases from different directions.
These are questions, not predictions. The Legislature may answer some, defer others, or take up matters no one now expects.

This page previews subjects; it does not forecast the content or passage of any bill. It will be updated with filed bills, numbers, and status as the session proceeds.
