NTSB Austin Automated Vehicle School Bus Investigation
On January 12, 2026, an unoccupied Waymo vehicle on the 1700 block of East Oltorf Street in Austin passed a stopped Austin ISD school bus with its stop arm extended, after a remote agent answered that it was not a school bus with active signals. No crash occurred. NTSB investigation HWY26FH007 is open; information is preliminary.
