Replaces the European Machinery Directive, establishing mandatory safety requirements for physical industrial equipment, self-evolving software, and autonomous mobile machinery sold in European markets. Regulation (EU) 2026/1744 also moved machinery into the part of AI Act Annex I that is excluded from the AI Act's technical obligations; high-risk AI requirements for machinery are to be set in the machinery regime by delegated act by August 2, 2028.
